Modern UPVC Doors

Designed to be an integral part of any home, our UPVC front and back doors come in traditional and modern styles to suit any aesthetic.

What is a UPVC door?
This door is named after the primary material – UPVC, which makes up the outermost surface.
An alternative to wood
While it looks quite different to the wooden doors you might be familiar with, UPVC easily takes the place of a wooden door in any home, and is purpose-built to better resist the elements.
It's made from UPVC - or "unplasticised" PVC
UPVC stands for “unplasticsed” polyvinyl chloride, but what exactly does this mean? It refers to a form of PVC where plasticiser is not added to its formula. Plasticiser is what gives PVC its flexibility, whereas the exclusion of this allows it to be rigid. UPVC can be extruded and heat pressed into different shapes, and coupled with its durability makes it useful in a variety of applications, from pipes to doors!
It's sometimes known as PVCU
Ever since their introduction into the UK market from Germany, UPVC products such as windows and doors were originally referred to as PVCU. This is due to the nature of European languages, such as French, applying adjectives after nouns, rather than before in the case of English. In the UK, these products are now referred to as UPVC; however, the term PVCU is prevalent in continental Europe.
You might also hear these doors referred to as PVC, but of course this is simply shorthand for UPVC.
Why is UPVC a good alternative to wood?
Well, UPVC was designed specifically as a versatile alternative to materials such as wood, not only due to the ease of moulding it into various shapes, but also its reliability in other factors.
It's weather resistant and energy efficient
UPVC doors can withstand the rain, and are uv-stable as well, resisting fading in sunlight. Without protection, wooden doors would soak up rain water, and deform when exposed to heat and moisture, making them much less reliable for security and insulation.
Another advantage that UPVC doors have over wooden are their multi-layered build. This restricts the passage of heat from inside the home to outside; conversely, a single-layered door has an unbroken path for heat to escape, leading to more energy waste, and potentially higher heating costs to compensate.
It has lower maintenance requirements
Wood requires varnishing for protection and paint for colour, while UPVC has a durable skin that comes in several finishes. All you need to clean a UPVC door with is a cloth with warm water. You don’t need to paint UPVC either, whereas painted wood can potentially chip and peel from age and exposure to the elements.
IMPORTANT: NEVER attempt to clean a UPVC door with abrasive materials (steel wool, scouring pads) or with solvents (bleach, washing-up liquid), as these can damage the door and discolour the finish.
It also comes in woodgrain finishes
Three woodgrain finishes are available – the mid-tone Golden Oak, darker Rosewood, and light Irish Oak. These have a wood-like pattern that make them as easy replacement to a wooden entrance door.
What modern styles do you offer?
While most of our styles are traditional or cottage, we offer a selection of modern styles.
The Havering
A six-panel door, the Havering consists of a pair of three vertically-joined and raised rectangles of combined near-full height.
Configurations include:
- Solid
- 3 Left – where the top-right, middle-left and bottom-right panels are glazed
- 3 Right – the top-left, mid-right, and bottom-left are glazed
- 4 – two top and two bottom panels are glazed
- and 6 – all six panels are glazed

The Luton
A design similar to our popular Monza composite doors, with elements enclosed within a near full-sized, grooved linear rectangle.
The elements consist of:
- Four horizontal lines
- The small rectangular glass panels, sitting each in the centre of the top three horizontal lines
- Flat raised modern borders around the glass.
A solid version of the door is also available.

The Warrington
Similar to the Luton above, this door has the same grooved features.
Instead of three small rectangular glass panels that you’d see in the Luton, the Warrington door has a single vertical glass panel making up the same height as the former’s combined glass.
This door style comes with clear glass or one of a selection of beveled and textured designs. Similarly, there is a Solid version of the Warrington.

The Virtu
Sharing the same grooved appearance as the Luton and Warrington doors, the Virtu stands out with its near-full height central glass panel, surrounded by the same flat modern border.
As well as clear and reeded glass, there are modern glass designs consisting of sandblasted and clear elements.
Please enquire if you wish to order the new Virtu door.
