Composite & UPVC Door Hardware

We often take it for granted, but hardware plays a vital part not only in the day-to-day performance of our doors, but also in how we convey the look and feel of our homes.

What are the benefits of choosing hardware?
Not all doors and not all homes are the same, and each resident’s requirements differ as well. The choice of hardware can determine kerb appeal, as well as affect your ease of living.
Presentation
You can accent your new composite or UPVC with the right choice of hardware, whether in shape or finish, the latter of which the majority of our options can be matched. Numerals can add a personal touch and make your home stand out.
Functionality
Not just for looking, handles are there to be used every day, while spyholes and security chains help to keep your home safe. With various finishes, there is no compromise between looks and functionality.
What hardware options are available for composite and UPVC doors?
From the handle you pull to the threshold you cross, you can customise your new front or back door in various ways.
Handles
The most intimate parts of any door, handles are used every day, from going out to returning home. Naturally, we offer a variety of options with different methods of function.
Lever handles
- Standard – the basic option for UPVC doors. Suited to any UPVC door style.
- Balmoral – the basic model for composites and an upgrade for UPVCs. The similar “Lever Lever” comes with Rock Doors. Suitable for all composites/UPVCs.
- Swan – a curved lever. Goes well with traditional/classical door styles.
- Lever Pad – the inner handle has a round pad for easy exiting, while the outer one is a Balmoral. Good for any style.
Heritage lock
An escutcheon with integrated handle, reminiscent of 1930s doors and ideal for composites of similar appearance, as well as cottage doors. A pull knob can be added for aesthetics or easier use.
Bar handles
Round – come in different lengths and separate from the barrel. Good for contemporary/modern designs.
Flat – offering a more modern look than round bars, and naturally suited to modern composites.
Nuki Smart Handle
As well as looking like a lever/lever handle, it offers an array of functions – such as auto-locking and remote access via an app on your phone.
Thumbturn
This is an option for handles and protrudes from the inside of the barrel, allowing for easy exit without need for a key, especially useful in an emergency.
Letterbox
Also known as a letterplate, makes it easy for posties to drop off letters. Available in standard and superior options for UPVCs, with superior as the base composite model.
Knockers
Save the wear on knuckles with one of our knockers. These include a Victorian Urn and an aptly-named Slimline Urn, both of which have counterparts with an integrated spyhole.
Spyhole
For solid doors and those with minimal/obscure glass, this allows you to see who's outside without opening the door.
Security chain
Keep visitors at arm's length should you need to speak face-to-face to them or accept a parcel from a courier.
Door Numbers
Also known as numerals, these metal house numbers are affixed to your door and add a personal touch. For styles that can’t accommodate these, alternatives include a toplight with a house number (etched into sandblast, or sandblasted against clear glass), or a glass design within the door that includes the number.
Thresholds
The part of the door which you step over to enter or exit through it. The standard threshold (or thresh for short) is a continuation of the frame. For easier access, there are the choices of a low aluminium thresh at 25-30mm elevation from the bottom of the doorway, or the lower arced part-M thresh at 15mm elevation for wheelchairs.
Such hardware as hinges and weatherbars (also known as dripbars) are standard for composite and UPVC doors, but come in a selection of different finishes.

What finishes are available?
The right choice of finish can really make your front or back door stand out, and help it in keeping with its intended aesthetic.
Chrome - Our standard finish. A polished metallic option that goes well with any style.
Gold - Similar to chrome, it has a polished look. A nice accompaniment to classical designs. For some hardware (e.g. dripbars), the finish is more satin.
Stainless Steel - Similar to chrome but brush instead of polished, while still having a hint of gloss. Perfect for modern doors, and particularly with bar handles.
Graphite Silver - A dark brushed metal finish good for modern designs.
Antique Black - Its pitted appearance gives it the look of unrefined and aged metal work, making it a great option for cottage styles.
White - A glossy white that tends to go with white UPVC doors, and provides a slightly modern appearance.
Black - A glossy black that goes with black or similarly dark door colours, and as well lends a touch of the contemporary.
Silver - For certain hardware (e.g. dripbars) it is similar to chrome but satin, and is similarly a standard finish. Also available for Rock Door letterplates and handles.

Colour-matched to the door
Generally, we match hardware to same finish where available. However, in some cases, certain hardware may be matched to the colour of the door. For example, as white is the most common internal colour, this is used as the finish for hinges. When it comes to a UPVC door that opens out, where these hinges are outside, they would be matched to the UPVC’s external colour. Similarly, the weatherbar on a UPVC will match the door’s external colour.
How do I take care of the hardware?
It’s important to take proper care of your door’s hardware, especially as you depend on it day to day.
Avoid wearing jewellery
Why? Because it can scratch surfaces. When cleaning, remove rings, bracelets and watches.
Don’t be rough
Avoid using bleach, scouring pads or high-pressure cleaners. These can damage your new door.
A cloth and water are your friends
Take a clean cloth with warm water to wipe clean handles, knockers etc, to keep them looking like brand new.
Oil moving parts
Add a little engineering oil to moving parts, such as hinges and handles, so they can continue to work smoothly. For lever handles, lift them up to check that all the locking points are engaging correctly.
