Traditional style composite doors
You don’t need to rely on old doors to keep that traditional look. With composite doors, you can get the same look as wood, and a wide choice of styles too. In this blog, we’ll highlight what makes composites stand out, and how they’ll benefit your home. We’ll also show you examples of our traditional door styles to give you the inspiration to upgrade your doorway, whilst maintaining your desired aesthetic.
Are composite doors worth the money?
- They look just like wood – With a knotted texture, composite doors look just like painted wooden ones.
- There come in many styles – Choose from a variety of door slab designs, as well as glass designs, to highlight your home’s traditional aesthetic.
- There are several colours available – A selection of heritage finishes will truly bring out the traditional look of your home. We also offer muted, softer tones, vibrant finishes, and even the option for a bespoke colour from the RAL or British Standard colour ranges.
What makes composite doors better than wooden doors?
- They’re more energy efficient – With multi-layered construction, composites offer superior insulation to wooden doors. Multiple layers help to reduce heat loss, while a single layer allows heat to escape more easily and waste energy.
- They’re low maintenance – Unlike wooden doors, which need to be painted or varnished, composites have a durable GRP skin that is both weather-resistant and UV-stable. They do not absorb water as a wooden door might, which can erode the latter and compromise functionality. The UV-stable finish of a composite resists fading in direct sunlight, and doesn’t require repainting.
- They’re highly secure as standard – Our composites include a Secured By Design multi-point locking system, protecting the door from top to bottom. Secured By Design is UK-wide police-approved initiative to tackle and reduce crime. We also use toughened safety glass in our doors and side panels to provide added protection against forced entry.
Styles that we offer
Our traditional composite doors are noted for their colonial panel configurations of twin vertical solid panels at the bottom, and a selection of glass panel configurations, with a focus on symmetry and grace.
The Dorset Composite Door
Style – Dorset
Colour – Chartwell Green
Glass – Duo Diamond
Hardware - Black
When it comes to composite front doors, the Dorset is our most popular choice - twin vertical glass panels in the top half, and smaller twin vertical solid ones in the bottom.
The Dorset does well to introduce visitors to your traditional home, working with various glass designs, or even combining modernism with grace when incorporating a contemporary glass design.
The Surrey Composite Door
Style – Surrey
Colour – Rosewood
Glass – Kensington
Hardware - Gold
The 5-panel Surrey consists of two pairs of twin vertical solid panels and a half moon glass panel at the top.
The high-set glass is ideal for privacy, whilst also letting through natural sunlight.
The Angus Composite Door
Style – Angus
Colour – White
Glass – Anice (Stippolyte backing glass)
Hardware - Chrome
The half-glazed Angus is our most popular traditional style composite back door. As the name suggests, the top half of this door consists of a spacious glass panel.
This large amount of glass permits a great deal of sunlight to enter into your home, brightening up a hallway or kitchen. Concerns of privacy can be remedied by a choice of obscure backing glass, or by one of our textured decorative glass designs.
The Lothian Composite Door
Style – Lothian
Colour – Black
Glass – Black Cavana
Hardware - Chrome
The Lothian style composite door is similar to the Surrey, but with the two central panels glazed in addition to the top half-moon. This configuration makes it a good choice for elaborate Victorian and Edwardian home entrances, where glass is more prominent.
Choose from a variety of classical glass designs, or even modern designs to give your contemporary home an elegant flair.
The Kent Composite Door
Style – Kent
Colour – Blue
Hardware – Stainless Steel
The Kent composite door is a timeless colonial design of six solid panels – two small squares at the top, and two pairs of rectangles below.
This solid door provides maximum obscurity, especially on a busy street. Good for Georgian style properties, the inclusion of a toplight can provide some needed light into the hallway.
The Sussex Composite Door
Style – Sussex
Colour – Olive
Glass – Aquarius
Hardware – Graphite Silver
The Sussex is similar to the Kent, with a six-panel colonial design, but with the top two panels glazed.
In a similar vain to the Surrey door, the high-set glass limits viewing into your home from passers-by.
Can I add a traditional composite door to a period home?
- If your home is a listed building – You will need to ask your local authority for permission to ensure that the period character of the building is maintained.
- If your home is within a conservation area – You will need to check with your local authority to ensure that any change made will not affect the character of the neighbourhood.
- If neither applies – You should be able to replace an existing door with a new composite door without permission. However, it is best to confirm with your local authority that your home is neither a listed building nor part of a conservation area before doing so.
