Traditional style composite doors

Close up for a traditional style composite door

Stunning as they are functional, composite doors have a lot to offer. Whether you need a new front or back door, you should consider one of our traditional style composites, also known as classical style.

Why should I get a traditional style composite for my home?

If your home has a classical/traditional aesthetic and you find yourself wanting a fitting front or back entrance door, then a composite is a good choice where one might find a timber entrance door.

Composites look just like wooden doors

Both are sturdy and both have a grained effect. In fact, our composites look just like brand new painted wooden doors. Of course, composites have advantages, which we’ll get into later.

There are several designs to choose from

You’ll notice familiar colonial slab styles, with twin raised panels at the bottom, and combinations of glass and other solid panels, from the half-glazed Angus, to the half-moon Surrey with solid twin mid panels. There are several glass styles as well, and you’ll be surprised at how well some of the modern ones fit with these timeless doors, not just classical designs.

There are many colours available

Take advantage of our range of never-paint-again colour options for both the door and frame. Whether you need a formal colour such as our dark blue, or a bright-and-bold tone like heather pink, not to mention or woodgrains oak and rosewood, you’ll be sure to find a fitting colour for your new composite. We even offer a bespoke colour service should you have a specific RAL or British Standard finish in mind.

How are they any better than wooden doors?

Of course, you must be wondering why you should get a composite rather than new timber door, or even try to salvage your old one. As well as matching looks, composite doors surpass wooden ones in key areas.

They’re weather resistant

Thanks to its GRP (glass reinforced plastic) skin, a composite is protected against moisture absorption. This is important, as moisture can degrade material such as wood. In the case of an unprotected timber door, this can cause it to warp and deteriorate, causing problems with insulation and security due to the door and frame not meeting correctly.

They’re highly secure

Security is built in, and each composite includes a steel reinforced frame (aluminium reinforced in the case of a Rock Door), giving it extra strength against force. We use toughened safety glass that resists head-on impact, and the aforementioned GRP skin doubles as a tough impact-resistant layer. A multi-point locking system ensures security from top to bottom, leaving no vulnerable spots along the locking side.

They’re more energy efficient

With our composites, we use double and triple glazing with warm edge spacer bars, which help to minimise heat loss from inside the home. The door slab is multi-layered, breaking up the path that heat would take to escape, whereas single-layered slabs would allow heat to escape more freely and thus waste both energy and money.

What styles do you offer?

As mentioned, our traditional/classical styles are characterised by their colonial panel configurations. While the possibilities are great, here are a few examples of what we offer:

The Dorset Composite Door

Style – Dorset

Colour – Chartwell Green

Glass – Duo Diamond

Hardware - Black

The most popular of our classical composite front doors, the Dorset features twin vertical glass panels within the top half, and smaller solid panels beneath those.

Despite being classed as traditional, the Dorset works well with both elegant and modern glass designs. It goes great with virtually any colour too.

It's no wonder the Dorset is a favourite to grace the front of any home.

The Surrey Composite Door

Style – Surrey

Colour – Rosewood

Glass – Kensington

Hardware - Gold

The curved upper glass panel of the Surrey offers a regal feel, with two pairs of solid rectangular panels below.

The high-set glass makes it less easy for eyes to peer thorough, whilst still welcoming natural sunlight into your home.

For a touch of refinement, this is one door to consider.

The Angus Composite Door

Style – Angus

Colour – White

Glass – Anice (Stippolyte backing glass)

Hardware - Chrome

Arguably our most popular choice for a traditional style composite back door, the Angus is a half glazed design, featuring the same twin solid panels as its relatives, the Dorset and Surrey.

As it is a half glazed design, it allows a great deal of sunlight to enter. If privacy is a concern, you should consider a backing glass option to obscure viewing inside, or one of our stunning glass styles.

The Lothian Composite Door

Style – Lothian

Colour – Black

Glass – Black Cavana

Hardware - Chrome

Like the Surrey but with more glass, the Lothian has, in addition to an upper half moon glass panel, twin mid glass panels above twin solid ones of the same size.

Elegant and functional, the Lothian comes with a selection of beautiful glass styles, and room for extras such as a knocker or numerals.

The Kent Composite Door

Style – Kent

Colour – Blue

Hardware – Stainless Steel

A solid door doesn't need to be plain. Take the Kent, a solid style with six colonial panels. It offers maximum obscurity from invasive eyes, while at the same looking stunning.

Its refined apparance works well with dark colours, and our selection of matching hardware, including numbers and a letterplate. A spyhole, or even a knocker with one integrated, enables you to see who's outside without them looking in.

The Sussex Composite Door

Style – Sussex

Colour – Olive

Glass – Aquarius

Hardware – Graphite Silver

In similar fashion to the Surrey, the Sussex has high set glass, being twin rectangles set above two pairs of larger rectangular solid panels. Its high set glass minimises invasive peering, at the same time creating kerb appeal for your home.

The same rectangle glass panels come in traditional and modern designs, the simplicity of their size accenting the otherwise stoic door.

A similarly high heritage lock would go well with this style, and further adds a traditional tone to your home.

What should I do to make the most of my new door?

As hardy as they are, composite doors still need good care. It doesn’t take much, but there are points you should be aware of.

Use only warm water and a clean cloth

Composites are very easy to clean, needing only a wipe down with a clean cloth and warm water.
DO NOT use washing-up liquid or bleach as these can degrade the finish.

Oil moving parts

Ensure that all moving mechanisms are lubricated with engineering oil. This will keep parts moving smoothly. For lever handles, check that the locking mechanism works by lifting the handle up.

Never use abrasives

Abrasives can scar your new door. AVOID using scouring pads and REMOVE jewellery before attempting to clean your door.
