Composite & UPVC Door Handles

Hand reaching for door handle

Not merely an accessory, the handle is one of the most familiar parts of any door, as it is used on a daily basis. Choosing the right one can be just as important as the style of the door, with look and function both playing a part.

Various door handles
The choice of handle will affect not only the look of your new door, but also its functionality.

What are the composite & UPVC door handles that you offer?

Naturally, each of our doors has the option for the traditional and familiar lever type handle, while select styles can alternatively be fitted with a pull handle.

Lever Handles

The familiar lever style handle is available as standard for our composite and UPVC front and back doors, with a few designs to select from.

Standard

(UPVC only)

This is the default option for UPVC front and back doors:

Superior range

(for composite & UPVC)

This is the standard range of levers for our composites, and they are available as upgrades for our UPVCs:

  • Balmoral

This is the default option for composite doors. For Rock Doors, the "Lever Lever Rock Door" handle is available instead, similar in appearance and function.
You can order this in a lever/lever or split spindle configuration, depending on your requirements.

  • Swan

An elegant alternative to the Balmoral, this swept design is suited to traditional door styles.
Only available in a lever/lever configuration.

  • Lever Pad

The Lever Pad is named for the lever on the outside and the large round pad on the inside. This pad is designed for a quick and easy exit in an emergency. A similar design is available for Rock Doors.
Only available in a split spindle configuration.

Not just a lever operated style, the Nuki offers numerous ways for you to enter and exit your home, from key fobs to mobile app access.
Batteries/charging required. Extra accessories may be required for some functions.

This small pull handle is set higher on the door then regular levers and goes well with traditional and 1930s style doors.

Bar Handles

These robust vertical handles are perfect for modern style composites, and come with a seperate escutcheon. They come in a selection of sizes and are available flat or round.

  • Round bar - 600mm | 900mm | 1200mm | 1500mm
  • Flat Bar - 400mm | 900mm | 1500mm

Pull knob

(Composite only)

While not strictly counted as a handle, it often accompanies a heritage lock and serves either as an ornamental piece or for extra leverage. It usually sits in the centre of a door, and goes with 1930s styles.

Sliding patio

This P-shaped handle is specific to UPVC sliding patio doors, making it easy to slide a large panel into place.

What are the differences in their functionality?

The handle is the most engaged part of any door, so it's important to choose one in which the operation fits your intended day-to-day use.

Lever-Lever

This locking method is manual. It requires that you lift the handle upward to engages the locking points, and to use a key as a means for locking the door.

Split Spindle

This locking method is automatic. The door can be locked simply by closing it, without using a key. While this is the case, it is necessary to engage the locking mechanism to ensure security, by lifting the handle and using the key.

Slam Lock

This locking method is automatic. It is used with handles that pull (heritage, bar) rather than 'turn' (levers). Closing the door automatically locks it.

Smart Handle

This handle operates by the use of technology, i.e. an app on your phone. The Nuki being such a handle can be operated in a number of ways, from remote access to perimeter sensing. As with other lever handles, it can also be locked and unlocked with a key.

Ornamental

Specifically the pull knob, it does not operate a locking mechanism and hence cannot be ordered alone. It usually accompanies a heritage lock, either for decoration or as an aid to opening a door.

What finishes are available?

Not just for fuctionality, a handle can match your desired aesthetic not only by its design, but also through different finishes that we offer, which can also be matched to other hardware.

  • Chrome

This is our default finish. A polished metal that can really show off the newness of your door.

  • Gold

For superior hardware it has a polished look like chrome, while for standard UPVC has a slightly brushed look. Gold helps to accent traditional designs.

  • White

Modern white while still glossy offers a more solid appearance than polished chrome or gold.

  • Black

Perfect with dark grey doors or for contrasting other finishes, black goes well with modern doors and even traditional styles.

How should I care for my handles?

Handles are meant to be used, so it's natural to be concerned about wear and tear. However, with the right care, you can get the most out of them.

Before you clean - remove jewellery

It is essential to remove rings and bracelets before you attempt to clean your handles or door, as these may scratch the surface

Warm water and a clean cloth

It doesn't take much to clean your handles - in fact, a clean cloth and warm water are generally all that's needed to restore lustre to your handles.

Oil moving parts

A little engineering oil can go a long way - apply some on moving parts to help them move smoothly. It is especially important to maintain handles this way if you live near the coast or an industrial site, as hardware is more likely to be exposed to abrasive elements.

Ensure that locks properly engage

Check that your locking system works correctly. For lever handles, lifting the handle will allow you to see if the top and bottom points of your locking mechanism engage correctly.

Make sure your Nuki is charged and calibrate it if needed

Make sure that the Nuki handle has a sufficient charge so that you can use its smart functions, and ensure that charging points are free from any debris such as dust or dirt. While the Nuki will auto-calibrate on initial set-up, you may wish to recalibrate it.
