Modern style composite doors
Growing in popularity, modern style doors are offering UK homes greater choice than before, where traditional styles have been the mainstay, and even the only real choice until recent years. If you’re in need of a modern door, this blog will point out the advantages of composite over wood, options for design, and what to expect when ordering a new door. By the end, you’ll be set to transform your home.
What are the advantages of modern composites over other doors?
- Easier to maintain – While composite doors have the same grained texture as wood, thanks to their GRP (glass reinforced plastic) skins, they are UV-stable. This means they will resist fading in sunlight. You also do not need to repaint them as you would wood, which can peel and bubble when exposed to the elements.
- More energy efficient – Composite doors are multi-layered as standard. These additional layers help to minimise heat loss from indoors. Single-layered doors and poorly insulating aluminium doors too easily allow heat to escape the home and thus waste energy bills.
- Weather resistance – Composites can withstand exposure to the rain and sun, whereas unprotected wood that absorbs rain water can deform and deteriorate from wear and changing temperatures, eventually failing to secure and insulate.
Options for modern composite doors
Small squares are popular
This door has a flat minimalist slab, with three small squares running from the top downwards in the centre. as well as the 3 square centre Lincoln, there are other small square modern composites available:
| Hampshire | 3 squares | handle side |
| Warwick | 3 squares | hinge side |
| Gloucester | 4 squares | handle side |
| Worcester | 4 squares | centre |
| Hertford | 4 squares | hinge side |
The Monza 3 Square Centre Composite Door
Our high-end Monzas are a popular choice for modern homes, including the aptly-named Monza 3 Square Centre. This style consists of a slab with large grooved rectangle and segmenting horizontal lines. The glass cassettes are flatter than the curved ones common with other composite styles. Other Monza Square styles include:
Grey works best
- Anthracite grey is the go-to finish for modern style composites, sporting a near black tone. Its neutral tone allows details on the door itself and home to stand out.
- Slate grey is slightly lighter than anthracite. It is good for adding a soft but still dark tone to the doorway.
Sandblast and clear designs for glass
- Kensington – A simple design of sandblast with a clear border.
- Edge – Sandblasted glass with a thin etched frame a little way from the glass edges.
- Roma – An abstract style of sandblast with etched lines.
Bar handles
- They are available up to 1500mm in length
- Available round or flat, in stainless steel or black
- The escutcheon is separate from the handle
