Contemporary style composite doors
When you think of contemporary style doors, you might think cold and metallic; conversely, you might see wood as old-fashioned and not fitting with the look of a contemporary style home. In this blog, we’ll see just what makes a door contemporary in style, and what makes composite stand out as a choice for your home.
What defines a contemporary style door?
- Minimalist appearance, with a lack of ornate details.
- Sleek design, not just for the door but also for glass and hardware.
- Geometric patterns, stark as opposed to organic.
Why should I choose a composite contemporary style door?
- As diverse as wood – Composite has the same grained appearance as wood, and is available in a wide choice of styles too. This grained effect adds a natural touch without detracting from the door’s sleek appearance.
- As contemporary as aluminium - Aluminium and composite both boast a contemporary look, but composite is not only cheaper, it also offers insulation and maintenance benefits over aluminium.
- Can also have toplights and side panels – Should you need any of these, they can be included with a composite door to match the finish and backing glass.
Why composite is a better choice
- More reliable than wood – Thanks to its GRP (glass reinforced plastic) skin, a contemporary style composite door is weather resistant; conversely, a wooden door can soak up water, hence warp and rot, causing it to fail in security and insulation in time.
- More energy efficient – As standard, our composites are multi-layered and include warm edge tech spacer bars in the glass. Both features offer the advantage of retaining heat, which can easily be lost through single-layered doors and glass with standard spacers. Aluminium too is a poor insulator.
- Less maintenance – You won’t need to paint composites as you would with wooden external doors, which can flake or peel. Our composites are also UV-stable, making them resistant to fading in sunlight. They are also easier to clean, while aluminium and painted doors can easily show scratches and imperfections.
What contemporary style composite doors do you offer?
Among our contemporary designs, slabs are typically flat, and glass panels range widely - from small squares to large vertical strips, and the glass can be set centrally or offset to the handle or hinge side. Our Monza subset of doors have a grooved pattern within the slab, consisting of a large rectangle and segmenting horizontal lines, and the cassettes are flat compared to the standard curved ones found in our composite doors.
