Contemporary style composite doors

Contemporary composite door with bar handle

You may think of contemporary doors as cold and metallic, or wooden doors as old-fashioned; composite doors are available in several contemporary/modern designs and have the same grained appearance as wood.

Why should I choose a contemporary style composite door?

With other door types on the market, you might be wondering why you should consider getting a composite.

They’re as diverse as wooden door styles

Offering as wide a choice of styles as wooden doors, you’re sure to find something among our composites that you’ll love. The wood-like appearance of our composites doesn’t detract from their modern designs.

They’re cheaper than aluminium

While aluminium doors offer a sleek contemporary appearance, our composites do just as well – and what’s more, they’re cheaper! Aluminium is higher priced, and despite the lower price composite front and back doors offer benefits over the former.

They can have toplights & side panels too

Should you need to replace a toplight, side panel or flag window, this can be ordered along with a composite – and we can match them to the colour of your new door or frame.

What are the advantages of choosing composite?

So, you’ve read what composites can do that timber and aluminium can - but what about how better they fare in the long run?

A more reliable material

Unlike wood which can degrade from constant exposure to the elements, our composite doors are purposefully designs to withstand the rain and sun. With a weather-resistant GRP skin (GRP short for glass reinforced plastic), your composite door will not soak up the rain as readily as a wooden door can. Without protection, a wooden door can rot and warp, therefore losing its ability to secure and insulate your home.

More energy efficient

All of our composites are multi-layered and use glass with warm edge tech spacer bars, both factors in which heat loss from inside your home is significantly reduced. Multi-layering breaks up the path that heat can use to escape, whereas a single-layered door lets heat pass through more easily and thus wastes both energy and money. Additionally, aluminium doors generally offer poor insulation as they are made of a heat-conductive material.

Low maintenance requirements

Unlike timber, composite front and back doors don’t require painting. They have a weather-resistant finish that can withstand rain and sunlight. For colour, wood requires paint, which can chip and peel in the sun, while aluminium doors can be scratched, with these scratches too easy to see.

What styles do you offer?

Contemporary/modern styles consist of generally flat slabs, with the Monza subset having a grooved linear pattern similar to our cottage styles. Glass tends to be a series of small squares/rectangles or long units, with some styles being variants of glass set within the centre, the handle side or hinge side.

The Monza Solid Composite Door

Style - Monza Solid

Colour - White

Hardware - Chrome

This solid style Monza is just as decorative and modern as our glazed doors, with the same grooved slab design. Its solid nature makes this door perfect for privacy, with a spyhole allowing you to see who's outside.

If you need natural sunlight to enter your hallway, we offer toplights and side panels (size permitting) with a selection of backing glass designs, which not only add a decorative element to the glass panels, but also provide different levels of privacy whilst letting light shine through.

The Fife Composite Door

Colour - Chartwell Green

Glass - Kensington

Hardware - Chrome + White catflap

With its flat slab, the Fife is a no-frills half glazed style, and is suited to a wide range of colours, from the soft chartwell green to a bold poppy red, or even a specific RAL or British Standard finish as part of our bespoke colour service.

The flat slab also allows for one of our catflaps or pet doors to be fitted, with options for manual-operated or microchip-activated models.

Modern and elegent glass designs, such as the Kensington or Diamond Lead, make the Fife an ideal back door for a contemporary home.

How should I maintain my new composite?

Thanks to the low maintenance requirements, it’s very straightforward.

Just a clean cloth and warm water

It should take no more than a wipe down with warm water to remove any stains. Chemical cleaners on the other hand can do more harm than good.

In short:

ü DO use warm water and a clean cloth

û DO NOT use solvent-based cleaners such as washing-up liquid or bleach!

Avoid using harsh materials

Rough materials such as steel wool or scouring pads can damage your door’s surface, and high-pressure cleaners are also not recommended.

ü DO remove jewellery when cleaning to avoid accidental scratches.

û DO NOT use abrasive materials for wiping or power cleaners to wash down your door!

Give it some oil

Get the best out of your composite by making sure all moving parts are working correctly.

ü DO use engineering oil on moving parts to keep them operating smoothly.

ü In the case of lever handles, DO lift the handle to check that the locking mechanisms engage.
